We know that family law issues can be highly emotional. We know that you are going through a transitional period in your life. Our job is to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible. |
Divorce
We work closely with men and women at all stages of a divorce, from the decision to file through post-judgment requests for modification or enforcement of existing orders. We represent either side in a divorce, handling all issues that may arise, including:
- Child custody and child placement (visitation). We will help you establish and implement custody and visitation arrangements that are in the best interests of the child while protecting your rights as a parent.
- Child support. We will help you understand the Wisconsin child support guidelines and review any proposed support orders to ensure that they comply. We will also verify that all relevant income is properly considered, including self-employment or commission-based income.
- Alimony or spousal maintenance. We will work with you to determine whether spousal support or maintenance is necessary and, if so, how much should be paid and for how long. We will help you understand the factors considered by the court and give you a realistic assessment of what to expect.
- Division of marital debts and assets. We will help you understand Wisconsin's marital property laws and work with you to develop an equitable distribution of all debts and assets, such as real property, bank accounts and investments, retirement assets, and business property.
Grandparents' Rights
Where one or both biological parents are deceased or in jail, or if a parent has remarried and the stepparent refuses access to the child, we can help. We represent grandparents seeking visitation rights with their grandchildren. We also represent parents resisting grandparent visitation.
Adoptions
We will assist you throughout the entire adoption process, helping you complete all the necessary documentation to formally adopt a child and be your advocate in all hearings or proceedings. We handle both domestic and stepparent adoptions, including voluntary or involuntary termination of parental rights.
Prenuptial Agreements
If you are considering getting married and will be bringing substantial assets into the marriage or have children from a prior marriage that you want to protect, we can help you prepare and implement a prenuptial agreement. Such an agreement will determine the distribution of assets should the relationship not work out. Contrary to what many believe, a prenuptial agreement can strengthen a marriage, by allowing the parties to minimize worry about financial matters down the road.
